A native of Columbia, Dr. Murray completed a BA in French before settling into the role of wife and mother, where she spent a delightful 12 years as an at-home mom. This interlude, during which she observed child and adolescent development up close, was the best preparation possible for her next career as a psychologist.

Dr. Murray completed both her Masters and Doctoral degrees in Counseling Psychology at the University of Missouri-Columbia. Her area of emphasis during the Masters program was career counseling and rehabilitation issues, which allowed her to work in school, hospital, and community settings. After her doctoral training, she completed an American Psychological Association internship at the Veterans' Hospital in Topeka, Kansas. During this time, she specialized in psychological assessment, health psychology and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.

Working alongside Little Bonne Femme Association, Dr. Murray began MorningStar in 1998. Her specialty practice areas include marital and parenting issues, as well as helping people heal from past abuse and trauma. In cooperation with the MorningStar Foundation, Dr. Murray is a member of the Grace Encounter Lead Team, and facilitates personal growth workshops designed to help people grow into who God made them to be and find healing from the hurts of life.

She believes that a healthy, well-adjusted family is one of the very best demonstrations to the world of God's character.

Shelley grew up in Seattle, Washington and went off to college in California to get a degree in English. She married her husband 26 years ago, and has two grown sons that she stayed home to raise.

She went to Columbia College for a degree in Psychology and to Stephens College for a Masters in Counseling. She was led to work with children at church and spent the next 14 years working as a school counselor in Columbia. It was through this work that it was apparent that God's Word was needed in dealing with these terribly needy families. MorningStar allows Shelley to do the work she loves in a God-centered environment.

Missouri is the life-long home of Mrs. Farmer. She earned her Bachelor's and Masters degrees from the University of Missouri-Columbia and has twenty-eight years of experience as a high school counselor. Working with high school students was very rewarding, but not being able to share the Gospel was a concern. In 1999, she decided to go back to the University and take the hours she needed to become a Licensed Professional Counselor. Since that time, she has been working at MorningStar.

Mrs. Farmer's strengths are working with teenagers and their families, people in depression, those with addictions and marriages in crisis. She also assists with communication problems, goal setting, and developing organizational skills.

In her own church, she coordinates the Conflict Mediation Ministry, which she would be glad to share with other churches. Sharing the Gospel of Christ through Christian counseling is her personal goal, and she is also available to speak on counseling-related topics.
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
